Shochikubai Nigori Creme de Sake, 15%, 300ml
Shochikubai Nigori Creme de Sake is a cloudy variety of traditional Japanese sake rice wine. Nigori, one of the oldest styles of sake, is more mellow than traditional crisp, dry styles, while retaining traditional subtle fruitiness. This Shochikubai sake has a sweet melon aroma, a smooth texture and sweet notes of vanilla.
Nigori sake is filtered using a thick mesh during the fermentation process, which allows some rice solids to remain suspended in the liquid. This is what gives it its opaque appearance and unique mouthfeel.
Unlike many other sake varieties that are served warm, Nigori sake is best served chilled. It makes for a refreshing drink to accompany any Japanese meal, with the creaminess soothing spicy flavours and the coolness bringing an excellent contrast to steaming ramen bowls.
