Mill & Mortar Organic Sumac, 50g
Sumac has a tart, citrusy flavour that brightens savoury dishes. Popular in Middle Eastern cuisine, it’s used in marinades and spice blends like za’atar. You can sprinkle it over dips and grilled meat to add a fresh, lemony taste.
Deep red in colour, sumac is made from the dried berries of the sumac bush. You can use it as a substitute for lemon or tamarind. It’s a great way to add tang to your dish without additional moisture.
This citrusy spice is versatile and easy to use. Pair it with olive oil and fresh herbs to marinate vegetables and poultry. Or, add a pinch to minced meat to make koftas and kebabs.
We like to add sumac at the end of cooking to preserve its tangy flavour. You can sprinkle it over dips like hummus and tzatziki to serve with toasted pita. It’s fantastic on salads, too. Use it to season a tomato and onion salad to accompany barbecued meat.
