What is Soju?
Soju is the most popular liquor in Korea. This colourless and clear spirit is made from distilled rice and grains and has a clean and pure ethanol flavour. Some Soju is also made from potatoes and starches, as a result of when using rice to produce it was banned. At an ABV of on average 20%, it is a lower alcohol spirit – somewhere between a wine and gin.
How do I drink Soju?
Drinking Soju is a social practice in South Korea. It is typically drunk neat in small glasses, much like Baijiu in China. Shots are toasted and drunk simultaneously at meals. It also works wonderfully in cocktails as a vodka replacement, or to add a tipple to your favourite soft beverage.
